Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)

 

Doctor of Philosophy, abbreviated Ph.D. for the Latin philosophy doctor, meaning "teacher of philosophy", or, more

rarely, D.Phil., for the equivalent doctor of philosophy, is an advanced academic degree awarded by universities.

In many, but not all countries in the English-speaking world, it has become the highest degree one can earn  and

applies to graduates in a wide array of disciplines in the sciences and humanities. The Ph.D. has become a

requirement for a career as a University professor or researcher in most of the fields.

 

The detailed requirements for award of a Ph.D. degree vary throughout the world; however, there are a number

of common factors. In some countries (the US, Canada, Denmark, for example), most universities require course

work for Ph.D. degrees. In many other countries (especially those with a greater degree of specialization at the

undergraduate level, such as the UK) there is no such condition in general. It is not uncommon, however,

 for individual universities or departments to specify analogous requirements for students not already in possession

of a master's degree.

 

In countries requiring course work, there is usually a prescribed minimum amount of study — typically two to

three years full time, or a set number of credit hours — which must take place before submission of a thesis. This

requirement is usually waived for academic staff submitting a portfolio of peer-reviewed published work. The

candidate may also be required to successfully complete a certain number of additional, advanced courses relevant

to his or her area of specialization.

 

A candidate must submit a thesis or dissertation consisting of a suitable body of original academic research, which

is in principle worthy of publication in a peer-refereed context

 

In many countries a candidate must defend this work before a panel of expert examiners appointed by the

University; in other countries, the dissertation is examined by a panel of expert examiners who stipulate whether

the dissertation is in principle passable and the issues that need to be addressed before the dissertation can be

passed.

NIMTT –Department of Research invites applications for admissions to “GMN Charitable Trust & BMT Education Society” Sponsored Ph.D programs in the selected subjects with limited seats.

ELIGIBILITY:

Master Degree with minimum 60% in the respective subject from Recognized University of India.

AGE : Age should not be more than 30 years as on the date of application.

HOW TO APPLY :

Students Interested to apply shall download the Entrance Application Form from the link below or from the download option of the NIMTT website .Every student shall fill up the application without any error and submit the same in person or by post with a DD of Rs 1000.00 drawn in favour of “BAGHAJATIN MECHANICAL EDUCATION SOCIETY” payable Kolkata. No cash will be accepted. Entrance application form wrongly filled or unfilled will be summarily rejected and the DD will be returned to the candidate.

ENTRANCE DATE : Entrance date will be announced at the end of May 2014.

ENTRANCE TYPE : Entrance will be held both Online & Offline on the above date. Candidate can select as per their choice in the application form. Once selected there will be no change further.

PLACE OF ENTRANCE: KOLKATA , DELHI & PUNE .

ABOUT THE PROGRAM : This is sponsored program by GMN Charitable Trust & BMT Education Society jointly in collaboration with NIMTT -Department of Research .The program is a Industry Collaborated program and the candidates selected will be absorbed for different jobs in NIMTT College like teaching , counseling , Planning , writing books & journals ,working in NIMTT publications , Creating Education awareness programs and many more related activities so that the candidates are becomes well aware about the working environment of the Industry & Corporate .

FEE PAYABLE : Selected Candidates shall pay RS 50,000.00 ONLY as the full & final course fee including all. This fee is payable after the final selection list is hosted in NIMTT website as per the given date.

SELECTION PROCEDURE :

• The students passed in the written examination shall have to attend the Viva-Voce Examination in front of the Selection Committee in the give date. NO TA/DA will be given for attending the Viva-Voce examination.
• Final list of students will be listed in NIMTT website.

DURATION OF THE COURSE : The duration of the course is 3 years .The PhD will be awarded in the year -2017 by a University Recognized by UGC Govt of India.

COURSE MODULE : The selected candidates will carry on the course work study along with their assigned JOB work .The students will appear in the entrance examination to be held next year -2015.The students will received the Registration after appearing in the Entrance Examination as per the University norms. After the registration is received the students will undergo sessions with the Guide/supervisors for making the synopsis .After the preparations of the synopsis the same will be submitted to the university for approval. After the synopsis gets approved the initiative will be taken by the Guide for starting the preparation of the PhD Thesis for final submission. After the Thesis gets approved the candidate shall attend the Thesis Viva for final awarding. In the entire course the candidate may have to move to university three or four times at own cost. All the above activities should be carried along with the assigned task given by NIMTT College relating to or may not be relating to the Research Activities.

EARNING OPPORTUNITIES: There are other earning opportunities which will be given to all selected candidates .By those opportunities they can earn 5-10,000 per month.

STIPEND: Selected students will be given stipend from 2nd & 3 rd semester as Rs 3000.00 per month , 4 & 5 th as Rs 4000.00 , 6 th semester as Rs 5000.00

 

NB: Sole decision for Selection of the candidates lies with the Management Body of NIMTT & the Selection committee of the sponsored Body.
